Southern Cape Beekeeping Industry Association (SCBIA)
We are a group of dedicated beekeepers who are passionate about promoting ethical, professional, and sustainable beekeeping practices in the Southern Cape province of South Africa.
At SCBIA, we recognize the importance of honeybees to our ecosystem and the vital role they play in pollination and honey production. We aim to provide our members with the necessary information and resources to become successful and responsible beekeepers.
Our association places a strong emphasis on preventing honey fraud, which is a significant concern in the honey industry. We provide our members with the latest information and techniques to prevent honey fraud and ensure that they produce and sell quality honey.
We also promote responsible pollination practices, which are critical to the health of our environment. Our association provides guidance on best practices for pollination.
We acknowledge that bee removals demand a sensitive and intricate approach. Our association offers members resources ensuring the safe and humane removal of bees from both residential and commercial properties.
Overall, at SCBIA, we are committed to supporting and promoting ethical, professional, and sustainable beekeeping practices in the Southern Cape province. We welcome beekeepers of all experience levels and look forward to sharing our knowledge and expertise with our members.

As mentioned before, at SCBIA we understand that the beekeeping sector is a vital component of the agricultural industry as a whole.
We also know how important honeybees are to our ecosystem, as well as the vital role they play in pollination and the production of honey.
Consequently our concern is to support and promote sustainable, ethical and professional apiculture practices in the Southern Cape Province.

Beekeeping
Understanding the important role of honeybees in pollination and the production of honey, it is our aim to assist our members. So we concern ourselves with providing them with the required information, along with resources and training, in order for them to be successful and responsible in their beekeeping endeavour. In addition we make use of field days to offer guidance in, and convey information about, confirmed best practices and techniques in a practical, as well as eco-friendly way.
Pollination
One way in which pollination happens, is when bees (among others) carry pollen from one flower to the other while collecting nectar and pollen. As bees are primary pollinators, it is important to make use of eco-friendly pollination practices to protect the bees. This is not the responsibility of pollinators only, but also that of crop growers using pesticides. Thus SCBIA provides guidance on best practices, and we also encourage members to apply and promote eco-friendly techniques.
Honey Production
South African beekeepers can’t produce enough honey to provide for the country’s consumer demand. As a result, honey fraud is fast becoming a serious concern in the honey industry. Honey fraud takes on various forms, for instance false labeling and adulteration with cheap syrups. SCBIA feels very strong about preventing honey fraud, hence we share the latest information and prevention techniques with members to encourage the production and sale of quality honey.
Bee Industry
The Bee Industry comprises any person or business involved in any which way in bees, honey and bee products. This includes persons involved in research, training and development in beekeeping, as well as those involved in bottling, packaging or manufacture of honeybee products, and also sellers. Moreover, it also includes persons manufacturing or selling beekeeping equipment, as well as those capturing, removing and relocating honeybee colonies from homes and businesses.
